Since 1965, John Moore has provided thousands of Missouri City homeowners with quality home services. Back then, we focused solely on plumbing. But much like the Missouri City area itself, we’ve come a long way in the past 50 years. Now, we make life easy for homeowners by offering a full suite of home services: plumbing, AC, electrical, pest control, renovations, roofing, lawn care— and the list goes on.
Electrical services is possibly the most critical service we offer homeowners. By enlisting only the most qualified electricians who are licensed and insured, our electrical services department has not only restored power to countless Missouri City homes, but also made them safer and more efficient for homeowners and their family. If you begin to notice electrical problems in your home— flickering lights, outlets that don’t work, frequent power surges, faulty wiring, humming from your walls and/or electrical panel— call on the name Missouri City trusts: John Moore.
Notice: If you have an electrical fire in your home, call your energy provider immediately to turn off your home’s electrical system. Then call 911 or the Missouri City Fire Department at (281) 403-4300 to extinguish any fires before calling John Moore.

Need an Electrical Panel Inspection, Repair, or Replacement?
Your home’s electrical panel— which is also commonly referred to as a distribution or circuit panel— is responsible for directing electricity to the various outlets, lights, and appliances around your home. It regulates how much electricity should be sent to each device, and includes several safety functions that prevent explosions and fires in your home. For instance, if an appliance like your air conditioning is drawing too much electricity, it will shut off power to that system, which is called “tripping a circuit”. When this happens, you can usually use the instruction card on the inside of your breaker panel to learn which circuit has been tripped and turn it back on. Older electrical panels do not always include this safety feature. If your home was built before 1990, we highly recommend replacing your electrical panel if it’s outdated or has been recalled.
Because electrical panels bear the burden of regulating a massive amount of electricity, there is a lot that can go wrong within your panel. The most common occurrences are a circuit that shorts or a fuse that explodes- which both happen internally- and power outages around your home. If you notice that a breaker won’t reset or that your electrical panel has black marks near a circuit, it is likely that a fuse has exploded or a circuit has shorted. If this is the case, call a licensed electrician to inspect your breaker panel and replace any broken components. Unless you are a licensed electrician, you should not open up your electrical panel to inspect or replace interior components as you may fatally electrocute yourself.
Because of their placement in out-of-the-way locations, Electrical panels are also known to attract insects and dust, which could lead to small explosions or fires within the panel. If your home is more than 5 years old, we highly recommend having your circuit panel inspected and cleaned by a licensed electrician to avoid any problems later on down the road. We also recommend having your electrical panel inspected before installing any new appliances or making any renovations.
Rewiring Missouri City Homes to Improve Safety and Efficiency
Your home’s electrical wires carry electrical signals to and from your electrical panel and the various switches, outlets, lights, and appliances around your home. Modern electrical wires are made of copper and are insulated with a PVC plastic. Copper can conduct electricity while providing enough electrical resistance to maintain a safe level of electricity flowing through the wire at a given time. The PVC insulation around your wires prevents them from coming into contact with each other or another conductive surface, which could spark a fire or explosion. Before the 70s, electrical wires were made of aluminum, which is far more conductive than copper, but also less safe. And before the 90s, wires were insulated with a different type of plastic that would become brittle over time, especially in Missouri City’s summer heat. For these reasons, if you live in an older Missouri City home, you may want to have your home’s wiring inspected and upgraded.
Rodents are also known to chew through wire insulation (and the wires themselves), leading to electrical problems or conditions that could potentially spark an electrical fire. If you notice a light flickering in your home, smell smoke coming from behind your walls, or hear a humming sound, it could mean that the wires running through your walls are malfunctioning. If we do find rodents have chewed through your home’s electrical wires, we will refer the issue to our pest control team to exclude them from your home so that the same problem doesn’t happen again.
