Choosing a New Kitchen CountertopFew renovations can do more to add value and ambiance to your home than a freshly-remodeled kitchen. While a new wall color and added shelving can go a long way toward creating a brand new look and feel for your home, nothing shows your culinary prowess more than a shiny new countertop.

Not sure what type of countertop will work best in your Houston home? Let's take a look at some of the most popular options:

Granite, Marble, & Other Hard Surface Countertops

Nothing says luxury like hard stone countertops. Coveted for its ambiance, durability, and color options, granite is most often found in the kitchens of discerning chefs (i.e. homeowners like you!). Granite, although not inexpensive, is still relatively affordable at around $100 per square foot.

Marble, on the other hand, provides a more upscale look and feel and not surprisingly comes with a more upscale price of as much as $250 per square foot. But let's face it .. nothing looks more lustrous than shiny marble.

Other types of hard surface countertops, like Corian and Swanstone, are more affordable but equally beautiful alternatives to granite and will usually run for as little as $75 per square foot.

Butcher Block Countertops

Butcher block offers a warm, rustic look in lieu of the sometimes cold, hard ambiance of granite and hard stone countertops. Moreover, butcher block possesses antibacterial properties and is easily maintained. Typically more affordable than hard surfaces, butcher block can be purchased for as little as $35 per square foot.

Laminate Countertops

Laminate countertops are more often than not the most affordable option in kitchen counters, running as low as $20 per square foot. More than just the price, they are an attractive choice for homeowners looking for a variety of color options from which to choose. If budget and functionality is your concern, laminate is a good choice.
