What exactly do I win?

A trip home to Houston for the holidays to be with the ones you love— and who love you! This includes a round-trip plane ticket to Houston from anywhere in the Continental United States. (Maximum $1,000 value)

John Moore will work around the winning contestant’s schedule for arrival and departure dates.

How do I enter?

Share a personal essay about something or someone in your life that you’re grateful for. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Family members
  • Lessons learned
  • Opportunities

Once your submission is ready to share, attach it to the submission form at the bottom of this page.

How long should my essay be?

However long it takes to show us who or what you’re thankful for and why. There is no minimum length, but we ask that your submission is no longer than 750 words.

Can I share pictures with my submission?

Of course! If a picture will help us understand your story and why you’re grateful, then we recommend you share it with your essay.

When do I submit my essay?

We will be accepting entries through the entire month of November.

The first date for submission is November 1st, 2016, and the last day submissions will be accepted is November 30th, 2016.

How will the winner be chosen?

Although we would love to send everyone who enters the contest home for the holidays, we can only choose one contestant. All entries will be reviewed by John Moore’s Home for the Holidays judges. The judges will select the essay they feel best exemplifies gratitude.

Ask yourself the following questions when reviewing your essay:

  • Is who or what I am grateful for clear in the essay?
  • Is it clear why I am grateful for that person or thing?
  • Is my essay easy to read?
  • Does the essay sound like me?

If the answer to the questions above is “yes”, then your submission should be in good shape.

When will I know if I won?

We will announce the winner of John Moore’s Home for the Holidays contest on December 6th, 2016. On the same day, we will contact the winner by email or phone call.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at [email protected]

We’re excited to read everyone’s submissions and send someone home to Houston for the Holidays!
